At a Glance

Donít be fooled by our Twistiness rating. This surprisingly smooth secondary road has some of the best curves around-- at least south of the midway point where the route esses continuously along the river. But north of Silver Creek, the road changes its name from Salmon River Road to Salmon Valley Road. Not a good sign. No longer forced to follow the capricious river, the road straightens with a vengeance, finishing in a series of long beelines, interspersed with 90-degree turns, across the fertile valley floor. Still, if youíre migrating between the Okanagan and the Shuswap, itís a great way to go. Even if youíre not, this DH is well worth the expenditure of a little rubber.

Riders Reviews:

"This is another favourite as it skips a boring and heavily traveled span of the Trans-Canada. Best ridden best from east to west, the first bit is boring, with long stretches of straight pavement, interspersed with 90 degree corners. After the road gets over its straightish tendencies, it gains an edge and whips you about, as you push through some great consecutive 30-50 kmh corners. Watch out for gravel as this is farming country. Tractors, cattle and horses are often seen and vehicles like to cut corners on both sides. Traffic is light, but on weekends can be heavier. A great alternative to Hwy 1." -Jason Elliott roall@yahoo.com
