At a Glance

Great motorcycle roads are not only about endless twisties and perfect pavement. This remote, historic highway shows why. Character is the key to this DH. From canyon cruises to wide sweepers to lakeside squiggles, the diversity of the spaced but steady curves is matched only by the ever-changing landscape. Beginning at Lillooet, the famed "Mile 0" of the old Cariboo gold trail, you trace the route of the pioneers along the spectacular Fraser Canyon before turning east across a high plateau toward the white cliffs, green valleys, and azure lakes of the Marble Range. The thousands of miners who ventured this way in the 1860s and 70s are long gone. However, if those original prospectors had experienced this road on Buells instead of mules, they’d have come back. Again and again.

"Last time I was on this road I didn't come home for 2 weeks!  I noted 'Mile 0' and like a moth to a bright light, I found that I couldn't stop myself. I ended up following this road all the way to Alaska. Another fine choice of places to ride.  I love this road. It follows rivers 80% of the time. Be sure to top up the tank in Lillooet if continuing north.  Watch out for the one tunnel/train crossing past Lillooet. SLOW down... When it says 20 kmh, that is about right. After that it is go time... "--Tom Badry tombadry@hotmail.com
